Newberg Graphic Endorses Kris

Bledsoe would serve the county well

The community editorial board is excited that so many candidates filed to be your next Yamhill County commissioner. It's encouraging that four quality candidates - Kris Bledsoe, Curt Johnston, Leslie Lewis and Donna Nelson - are interested in taking on the highest office in the county.
That being said, here are our views: Curt Johnston is a very nice man, but doesn't have the experience to do the job and stands little chance of beating Nelson or Lewis. Donna Nelson wants to scrap the current plan for the Newberg-Dundee bypass, an alignment years in the making. Her stance illustrates the quagmire the legislature has found itself in the past decade.
That leaves newcomer Kris Bledsoe and incumbent Leslie Lewis. On many fronts, Lewis has represented Yamhill County well. Her undying support of the bypass is encouraging and she is the taxpayers' best friend when it comes to saving money.
Bledsoe, on the other hand, has fresh ideas and lacks the political baggage that Lewis carts around. Her diverse background in business and management would serve the county well.
Lewis is a determined woman that works hard to get things done. That has been evidenced in her involvement in the bypass effort and returning the Yamhill County fair to profitability.
However, Bledsoe has an outsider's view of the county. She has grasped well the county's problems and has made common sense suggestions (enlarging the commission from three members to five to eliminate stalemates, for example).
In the end, the editorial board said, Lewis is someone who bowls a person over with facts but doesn't listen so well.
Bledsoe listens, suggests solutions and has the business and corporate acumen to get the job done. That is why she gets our nod for Yamhill County commissioner.

County Commissioners Raise Money

(Details can be found at: http://www.oregonvotes.org/)

Reviewing the public information on ORESTAR on 4/20/2008 prompts questions.

Leslie Lewis has received cash donations of $15,060 and has a remaining balance of $12,649.81. A review of Leslie Lewis’ financial transactions reveals that over 50% Leslie’s cash donations have come from construction or real estate related businesses. Leslie has also received $2900.00 in political committee or tribal funds. Can Leslie Lewis really give unbiased opinions in land use issues when over 50% of her donations come from those who have the potential to benefit financially from her decisions?

Donna Nelson has received cash donations of only $1135 and shows a deficit balance of $7,919.05. Why does Donna Nelson show a lack of cash donations in her campaign  resulting in a large deficit? Is this sound money management?

Kris Bledsoe has received cash donations of $10,589 and has a remaining balance of $6273.44.

What people are saying about Kris

“It is time to make Kris Bledsoe our newest county commissioner. Kris has an impressive background in finance and management—probably the two most important attributes of an effective commissioner. She brings new ideas, energy and a thoughtful approach to the issues. It is time for this type of change.”

— Sheriff Lee Vasquez, Retired

“I have seen Kris manage crisis and chaos with skill and caring. She is intelligent, articulate and she will well serve the citizens of YamhillCounty.”

— Rosemari Davis, CEO, Willamette Valley Medical Center

“Kris has immersed herself in the community and hasnʼt hesitated to give her help and support when itʼs been needed. Sheʼs dedicated, honest and fair, and I believe she will make a superb commissioner.”

— Sandi Colvin

“Krisʼ record shows that she is aware that the public decision-making process is an inclusive process. She believes everyone should be involved, or at least have their say in one way or another. Kris also knows a little bit about farming. She was raised on a cattle ranch in Creswell, and her daughter and son-in-law are Yamhill County farmers. No more ʻpublic be darned.ʼ Vote for Kris Bledsoe.”

— Hank Franzoni
